Arriving in Santa Cruz das Flores
Our flight Our flight left at the 29th of December from Sao Miguel to Flores. The flight was on time and we were lucky that it still went because of the wind. After our departure, we felt some turbulence which disappeared as soon as we were above the clouds. We focused on our Netflix series because we thought that the worst part was behind us. First we had to go to Terceira and Faial. We landed there without any problems. We had to make a transfer to get on the same plane with the new passengers. In our last landing on Flores we really started to understand the meaning of…

Goodbye Ribiera Grande and hello Ville da Nordeste
Biking 50 kilometers When we left Ribiera Grande, we were prepared for a bike ride of 33 kilometers. Ofcourse, you are already guessing it, it turned out to be something very different. The first bike ride to Sete Cidades was the hardest one till now and we did ok. So we started the next ride with a lot of faith. When we wanted to ride over the main road, we noticed some signs saying that we could not go there (thank you Google maps). This went on for a few times and 33 kilometers turned into 50. At our last break it started to go dark and we were still…

Vikos gorge
In our last blog we told you about our visit to the Vikos gorge from Monodendri. On the other side of the gorge there’s another town called Vikos. We were told that this was the nicest part of the gorge and we went. After a few winding roads through the mountains we arrived at Vikos and we began our decent. The road was covered with slippery stones but after a while we made it down. There we saw the beginning of a river and a place where we could swim in it. When we walked a little further we came to a place where the river used to be, but…

Zagori’s finest
Lucas stay We received the tip to go to Ioannina because of it’s surroundings. It supposed to be different then the rest of Greece. We booked a house in Aspragelli and as we arrived the first thing we’ve noticed was the landscape. In one hour drive the season has changed from hot summer weather to the beginning of fall. Some of the trees were getting orange, the land itself was greener with more mountains and the houses and people were more decently. The view was amazing. The place we were staying in, was rebuild by the owner. Luckily the owner happened to speak our language which is Dutch. No problems…

War museum and Drunense duinen
Museum of war Overloon This is the biggest museum in the Netherlands regarding World War II. We decided to pay in front because the last time we went to a museum is was sold out. It’s a good thing we did because it was full. After we entered the first thing we found is a hall full of collectibles regarding the German occupation. There is a lot of history to tell and the most interesting thing that we found, is that the Germans loved their paperwork and the reason why Dutch people love their road signs. After the history part we walked into a big hall with a lot of…

Dwingelderveld and Westerbork
After our arrival in Odoorn we decided to go to Dwingelderveld and Westerbork. Dwingelderveld National Park This national park has some walking routes. The shortest is around 5 km, the second is 7 km and the longest is 13 km. We decided to take the longest. The whole route exist our of a gray trail that we had to follow. Because of the grey color is was easy to miss some of the things. After a few hours of walking we discovered that for ourselves. So we took a detour of 1 km. The scenery was really nice. We did some walking before, but not this far. We found that…

Veluwe Zoom, day 2
We decided, after enjoying the first hike so much, to go for another day of hiking in the beautiful Veluwe Zoom national park. We hiked for about seven kilometers and this time we actually saw some wildlife! Besides the noisy people. Last trip This concluded another great day in the outdoors. It was also our last trip while staying in the Veluwe, as we are heading up north in a few days. Its been great being here and we would definitely like to return again some day. See you next week from a new temporary home near Zwolle!

Hoge Veluwe – Round 2
We had some down time the past few days, mostly due to a combination of bad weather, covid vaccinations and some personal work projects. The weather was shaping up again yesterday and we decided to go back to the Hoge Veluwe park. We had not seen a few places yet. Kröller-Müller Museum In the park we took the free white bicycles and rode to the Kröller-Müller Museum. This museum was build in the middle of the park and owned the art collection of the Kröller-Müller family. It hosts one of the most largest collections of van Gogh. We walked faster through the pieces of art then we wanted, because it…
